CMC Research Institutes and Foresight Partner To Accelerate Growing Opportunity For Carbon Capture and Conversion Technology Across Canada

Announcement
September 4, 2019

CMC Research Institutes (CMCRI) and Foresight Cleantech Accelerator are partnering to grow the carbon capture and conversion industry in Canada.

The partnership will see the companies collaborating to showcase carbon capture, utilization, and conversion work in western Canada and promote the facilities at CMCRI’s Lower Mainland facility to industries, government and cleantech developers.

“The global market for products made from captured carbon is an estimated $800 billion and in order to maintain our emerging market leadership, we have to find ways for Canadian entrepreneurs to reduce the time-to-market and ensure rapid and reliable validation of their technology,” says Sandra Odendahl, CEO and President of CMCRI. “Our partnership with Foresight allows us to support innovators to build and market these technologies. Foresight has expertise as a business accelerator while CMCRI offers capacity for technology testing and scale-up. It’s a powerful combination.”

CMC Research Institutes offers a world-class facility in Richmond, B.C. for testing and developing technologies that capture carbon and convert it into commercial products like building materials, fuels and chemicals. At its carbon capture and conversion centre, located in BC Research’s technology innovation facility, CMCRI experts work with clients to take innovations from the lab, scale them up, and prove them in a plug and play setting using real flue gas. The company also operates a research station in southern Alberta for the development of CO2 and methane monitoring technologies, and assists companies with carbon management strategies to increase profit and reduce risk.

Foresight is Canada’s leading cleantech accelerator, helping entrepreneurs to build sustainable business models through planning and mentoring. Their focus is the development and commercialization of technologies that lead to cleaner energy production, including carbon capture and conversion innovations.

“Interest in the carbon capture and conversion sector is trending and we see an opportunity for Canada to step into a leadership role for exporting these technologies. Together with CMCRI, we want to build on that interest and turn the country into a global supplier to these markets,” says Jeanette Jackson, Foresight CEO.
