Before the end of 2025, Toronto-based Variablegrid had landed a game-changing deal with a leading investor.
That’s a common trajectory for companies that make the Foresight 50. Collectively, past Foresight 50 Honourees have raised over $3.2B since 2021.
In November 2025, Toronto-based Variablegrid was named an honouree for their Adaptive Power technology, which addresses a specific net-zero constraint: enabling EV charging across a full suite of residential solutions—from single-family homes and townhouses to multi-unit buildings—without requiring owners to pay for expensive electrical grid upgrades. But making the list was less about validation and more about a shift in commercial momentum.
Being named one of the “most investible” cleantech companies wasn’t the finish line. It was the launchpad for cleantech investment momentum.
The Pitchbook Connection that Changed Everything
For Variablegrid, the true power of the Foresight 50 wasn’t just the applause on the day of the event—it was the lingering ripple effect of the exposure.
While attending the Spring Impact event, an investor who had been exploring the Foresight 50 Pitchbook came across the venture. That initial connection with Graham Day, Managing Partner at Spring Impact Capital, sparked a series of follow-up conversations. By early 2026, Spring and Variablegrid signed a term sheet, with Spring as lead investor.
That deal officially closed early this year, bringing in vital follow-on investors and securing a powerful strategic partner. Today, Spring Impact’s Olivia Hornby sits on Variablegrid’s board, guiding the company through its next explosive phase of growth.
The Foresight 50 directly brought in a lead investor for us. It is less about a single event, and much more about the ongoing visibility it creates with the exact investors you want to be in front of.

Narrowing Focus, Scaling Long-Term Impact
With fresh capital secured, Variablegrid has spent the last few months focusing on its mission. While EV charging is a massive scope, the team is narrowing down on the residential market—specifically, EV power management for where we live.
Their philosophy is simple yet revolutionary: We can solve climate change at the edge of the grid. As public figures like Mark Carney point out, Canada needs to double its grid capacity by 2050. While massive public investments in grid infrastructure are great, true resilience requires demand-response capacity at the household level. Variablegrid is building the best home energy system on the market to do exactly that, creating a seamless way to increase electrification without collapsing local infrastructure.
And the market is paying attention. The company is hiring rapidly, expanding its team to keep pace with a string of recent high-profile wins. They were recently named a “Moonshot” venture at the NACO Summit and advanced to the top five of the RBC Invest Together initiative (currently in due diligence). They have also partnered into a commercial relationship with Kia Canada—integrating directly into the automotive buying process to get their tech into everyday homes.
“Why Wouldn't You Apply?”
Today, Variablegrid proudly includes its Foresight 50 title as a core, notable achievement in every pitch deck. For cleantech innovators on the fence about entering the 2026 cohort, their advice is straightforward:
“It’s nice to get the recognition, but more importantly, you have absolutely nothing to lose. The application isn’t long, and if you are looking to raise capital and get in front of virtually every serious cleantech investor in Canada, this is hands-down the best way to do it—this is the stage you want to be on.”
The Foresight 50 stage isn’t just about a trophy for the shelf; it’s about commanding the ecosystem visibility that attracts leading investors, secures large partners, and accelerates national market dominance. Since its launch, the 2025 Foresight 50 Pitchbook has been downloaded over 700 times, putting Canada’s most investible ventures directly into the hands of global decision-makers who have the capital to scale them.
Variablegrid proved that a spot on the list is a catalyst for real-world scaling.
The right visibility, in front of the right investors, at the right moment, can accelerate years of momentum. The question is: Will your company be next?
